CHAPTER THREE

Two weeks had passed since the accident. He was in a walking cast and could move around fairly easily with a walker. The doctors had decided he could go home. It scared the crap out of him. Jordan had been up to see him almost every day fairly early on, but he’d been absent for the last two days. Jordan had promised he’d be here to pick him up and now that it was close to time, Liam wondered if he’d show. They’d argued about something trivial earlier in the week. He’d been high as a kite on painkiller and didn’t remember what had happened. All he knew was Jordan left angry and he’d fallen asleep.

The pain had abated, which allowed him to drop the hardest of the medicines. He still was on a low dose, but it wasn’t leaving him in a fog. Having a cab drop him at home would have been the better solution to the issue, but Jordan had insisted on helping him.

Time ticked by, leaving him antsy. He palmed his cell phone, wondering if he should call Jordan. What would he say? I don’t want you to stop by, leave me alone? Those were both lies. There were issues he’d have to deal with for a while. He could walk, which was impressive based on his injuries. He would probably limp for a long while. His active lifestyle was over at least for now. Jordan seemed to be fit, and probably would want to do things together, but his injuries would slow him down. Hell, he couldn’t believe that Jordan was sticking around. What did he want?

The door opened and the nurse strolled in. “Hey there, hot stuff, looks like you’re on your way out.”

“Yeah, it’s been a good trip to the spa, I’ll see you next time.”

She laughed and placed some paperwork on the table. “Don’t hurry back, darling. Just sign these when you have a chance.”

They were both laughing when Jordan stepped in, his gaze narrowed and his lips grew thin. Liam sobered, but his heart raced. How could this man have wormed his way into his life so quickly?

“Hey,” Liam said, his voice much softer than he’d meant it to be.

The nurse gave Jordan a quick smile before turning back to Liam. “I’m going to go get your ride.”

“Do I have to?” Liam said.

“You know the rules. Wheelchair until you’re out the door.”

“Fine.”

The door closed behind the nurse and Jordan closed the distance, his lips curving up at the corners. “I missed you.”

“Why didn’t you come by?”

“You don’t remember, do you?” Jordan reached up and brushed his hand through Liam’s too long hair.

“No, I was drugged up.”

“I’m sorry. We argued and I said some harsh things I shouldn’t have. Then you told me not to come back.”

Liam shook his head and looked away. “I’m sorry.”

Jordan cupped Liam’s chin and lifted his head. “I was wrong to yell at you.”

“What were we arguing about?”

“Nothing important.”

“Tell me.”

“I wanted you to stay at my place for a few days while you getting better.
